About Us

The Upstate Brass was created in the Spring of 2007 when Bruce Dean and Matthew Hindman decided that they would form a self-supporting brass quintet to minister at churches in the southeastern United States. Our first performance was a series of Christmas concerts at a large local mall; next was a concert of Renaissance and Baroque music for a seasonal production company, after which our group returned its focus to a church ministry.

The members of the Upstate Brass are professionally-trained Christian musicians who desire to provide worshipful, God-honoring instrumental concerts in small and medium-sized churches in the southeast. Music played by the Upstate Brass is a mix of traditional hymns, songs and newer compositions that will be familiar and appreciated by traditional church congregations. Much of the music that we play is arranged especially for the group, thereby allowing our concerts to present a fresh sound to the listeners. While our sound is exciting, harmonious, worshipful and current, we do not use CCM music nor play in styles that emphasize rhythm or jazz.

  • We provide a sacred instrumental concert during a Sunday morning or evening church service
  • We are professionally-trained musicians providing high quality, God-honoring sacred music
  • We have flexible formats, content, and length, including an optional devotional message
  • You provide only the congregation – we bring everything else!

We look forward to hearing from you and being given the opportunity to minister at your church!
